An elderly Kenyan woman has captured the admiration of social media users after photos surfaced of her covering her granddaughter with a wrapper due to her choice of ripped jeans.
The incident, which gained attention, was shared by Facebook user Wahome Thuku.
The photos shared online depict a rural village setting where the grandmother, visibly troubled by her granddaughter’s attire, takes action to address what she perceives as ‘indecency.’
The granddaughter, seated outside a home and sharing a cup of tea with her grandmother, appears amused as the older woman points out the torn spots and ragged holes in her jeans.
The grandmother then proceeds to wrap a leso around the younger lady’s waist, eliciting laughter from both parties.
Wahome Thuku’s accompanying caption recalls a similar encounter, where a different elderly lady questioned the appropriateness of worn-out trousers, expressing concern about the family’s financial well-being.
“Wafunike kabisa cucu. Tumejaribu, tumeshindwa. Reminds me of an old lady who asked me why I was letting my daughter go out with worn-out trousers. She wondered if my family was in such a big financial hardship,”Thuku wrote.
The post has since received positive reactions from followers who commend the grandmother for prioritizing cultural values and decency over contemporary fashion.
Netizens Reactions…
Pst Sarah said; “A very good cucu. She had to stand up and cover up the girl properly, then sit down. Even after sitting down, she had to ensure that the leso was still covering up properly.”
Snowie Snow said; “Courtesy demands that you respect the host’s culture. The girl should have dressed well per the grandmother’s customs, then reverted to her fashionable dress elsewhere. Grandmothers are not demanding, and we don’t visit them daily, so it is a small sacrifice. My two cents.”
Queen Pascaliah said; “But why should a whole grownup put on such a trouser? Nonsense.”
Thiaka Kariuki said; “Swag or none I’ll never wear such jeans. I know what it means to lack and I can’t laugh at the poor who wish they have decent clothes.”
Chrispine Mukenya said; “Our society is eroded with the white culture oooh God help us.”

Mummy stop stressing yourself,Girls of this GENERATION prefer CRAZY and ABNORMAL things to NORMAL Things.Even if you buy her a Decent jeans today,by tomorrow she LL still go and turn it to CRAZY.
God will bless this age woman, these are the real African women, not these girls of these days.the lady should be ashamed of herself.the girls of today does not have value for theirselves
It is good because it shows that a elderly woman is a real disciplinarian. She loves her granddaughter. She doesn’t want her to lose life through waywardness. She wants her to behave well and dress well, not dress crazy.
She wants her to respect herself in dress. Bible said, do not let your youth deceive you. Only remember the Lord your God who created you.
Seriously during there own time nothing like woman wearing trousers and talk less of seeing crazy Jean and well thanks to the grandmother that did this maybe those mothers will watch there back earlier
God bless you ma, for teaching the younger, ignorant and wayward generation how to appear in the public.
If only she will learn from such.
I wonder what our young mothers are turning away from the moral and embracing indecency all in the name of exposure?
