BREAKING NEWS: Electricity Cut-off in Niger Republic Leads to Shocking Infant Mortality Rate

In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that up to 40 babies are dying every day in Niger Republic due to the country’s electricity supply being cut off. The lack of electricity has resulted in hospitals and incubators being unable to function, leading to the tragic loss of innocent lives. Dr. Abdoul Djibou, a medical practitioner in Niger, confirmed this devastating situation in a recent interview.

The closure of borders has made it extremely difficult for hospitals to access essential petroleum products, such as diesel and petrol, to power their generators. The dire consequences of these electricity and fuel shortages have been felt across the country, with the general populace suffering greatly. Urgent action is needed to address this crisis.

Dr. Abdoul Djibou passionately appealed to the Nigerian government to reconsider its decision to cut off electricity supplies, emphasizing that the people of Niger are closely tied to northern Nigeria. He urged the government to prioritize negotiations with the Junta leaders and intensify efforts to find a diplomatic solution, rather than resorting to harmful sanctions.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has also highlighted the severity of the crisis, stating that over two million children in Niger require urgent humanitarian assistance. The country’s health system is struggling to store and preserve vital vaccines, including those for polio, due to the power outages.

UNICEF and the United Nations have been forced to spend exorbitant amounts on fuel for generators, with costs amounting to $200,000 during the first three weeks of August alone. This staggering increase from the previous monthly expenditure of around $10,000 is straining resources, and emergency funds are desperately needed to prevent further devastation.

This dire situation raises serious questions about the treatment of African neighbors and brothers, as well as the impact on diplomatic efforts. It is unacceptable to subject innocent people to such suffering and tragedy, especially when seeking to promote democracy. The approach of cutting off electricity supplies and imposing sanctions must be reconsidered, as it directly contributes to the deaths of vulnerable babies and children.

In light of these distressing reports, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairman of ECOWAS and leader of Nigeria, is called upon to review and reverse the policy of cutting off electricity supplies to Niger. It is crucial to recognize the distinction between a nation’s government and its people, as punishing the population for the actions of their leaders is both unjust and counterproductive.

Interestingly, France, one of Nigeria’s Western allies, has labeled Russia’s targeting of power grids in Ukraine and denying them gas as a “war crime” and “crime against humanity.” Yet, they are encouraging Nigeria to employ similar tactics against Niger. The application of double standards by France raises serious concerns and highlights their excessive influence in Africa.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has passionately criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for France’s destructive policies in Africa, particularly in Libya. She highlighted the detrimental impact on Niger, where uranium resources are exploited while the population remains impoverished and lacking basic necessities. Her powerful words call for an end to such exploitation.

It is evident that urgent action is required to prevent further loss of innocent lives in Niger Republic. The Nigerian government must reconsider its policies and prioritize the wellbeing and humanitarian needs of its neighboring nation. Diplomatic solutions are essential to promote peace, stability, and unity in the region.
