Enugu State Government Announces Plan to Construct 81 Roads Across the State

In a bid to alleviate hardship and improve the state of the economy, the Enugu State Government has unveiled plans to commence the construction of 81 roads. Among these roads are 71 roads within the Enugu metropolis and 10 major roads that will connect various parts of the state.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works, Dr Gerald Otiji, during a briefing with Government House correspondents after the State Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Peter Mbah on Monday.

According to Dr Otiji, the identified roads in Enugu urban, including Trans Ekulu, Abakpa, Emene, Awkunanaw, Coal Camp, Asata, New Layout, Achara Layout, and Idaw River, are earmarked for rehabilitation or reconstruction. These roads are crucial for improving transportation within the city and addressing the problem of deteriorating infrastructure.

Furthermore, the government has identified areas with heavy morning traffic and traffic congestion to construct flyovers. One of these areas is the Abakpa Junction, where a flyover will be built to alleviate the bottleneck. Another priority area is the Chris Chemist/Old Park junction, which the government plans to navigate and construct a flyover.

In addition to the roads within the Enugu metropolis, the State Executive Council has also identified 10 other roads in different local government areas across the three senatorial zones. These roads play a vital role in connecting various communities and facilitating the movement of goods and services.

The construction of these roads and flyovers is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance transportation efficiency, and contribute to the overall development of Enugu State. The government’s commitment to infrastructure development underscores its determination to improve the lives of its citizens despite the prevailing economic challenges.

As the Enugu State Government embarks on this ambitious road construction project, residents can look forward to improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and enhanced socio-economic activities throughout the state.
