Liverpool’s star defender, Virgil van Dijk, has heaped praise on Darwin Nunez for his impressive start to the season,
Van Dijk pointed at the Uruguayan forward’s potential and quality.
Nunez arrived at Liverpool for a club-record fee of £85 million last year, and faced criticism during a challenging campaign for the Reds, which saw them miss out on the Champions League for the first time in seven years.
Van Dijk lauded Nunez’s recent performance against LASK in Austria, emphasizing his importance to the team.
The Dutchman said, “Everyone has now seen the potential and the quality he has. Darwin was very important for us against LASK, and long may it continue. Upfront, the competition is quite good. They all have to push each other, and it’s good to see. Everyone has a role to play, whether you start or not.”
Van Dijk also revealed the psychological aspect of pressure moments in games, referring to a crucial penalty in the match.
He explained the mind games involved, saying, “You have to make sure you protect at least the penalty spot. It’s a bit of a mind game there.
“Maybe they were going to try and get in your head. It was always the plan that Darwin was going to take it, and I’m glad he scored,” he added
Jurgen Klopp men remain unbeaten this season, amassing 13 points from five Premier League games. The team’s next challenge is against West Ham on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
