Reasons We Can All Relate To With The Grandpa From Up

Grandpa From Up In 2009, Pixar created the enchanting film, Up, which follows the tale of Carl Fredricksen, a balloon salesman who longed for adventure, specifically to Paradise Falls with his beloved wife, Ellie, whom he met as a child in an abandoned house.

Grandpa from up name

Carl Fredricksen.

After Ellie passes away, he finds himself stuck in a rapidly developing city block where only his house remains standing amidst demolished rubble and upcoming construction. But, when a super-enthusiastic boy named Russell, a dog named Dub, and thousands of balloons arrive, Carl’s life takes an amazing turn.

Throughout the movie, we witness how Carl, like most elderly individuals, started as a young and imaginative boy with dreams and goals but eventually fell into the monotonous routine of an old man. However, there are many relatable reasons for this, which are not necessarily bad.

Here are the top six reasons why we can all relate to Carl:

  1. He hates mornings and struggles to get up, which is something we all face, but he manages to ride a chair down the stairs, saving his legs from unnecessary effort.
  2. Carl is not a people person, and sometimes we all just want to go about our day without any interruptions. We wish we could say “no” as easily as Carl does. But his life changes when Russell stows away in his house before the adventure begins.
  3. When someone destroys his mailbox, Carl loses it and hits a construction worker with his cane. Although not the best response, we can understand his frustration.
  4. Carl takes matters into his own hands and hooks up thousands of helium balloons to his house, sending him on an adventure to Paradise Falls, a place he had dreamed of his entire life. We can relate to his “go-getter” attitude and not wanting to be torn away from the home he loves.
  5. He keeps his promise to Ellie by adventuring to Paradise Falls, even after her passing, showing his loyalty and love.
  6. Carl steps up in the end to become the grandfather figure Russell needs, overcoming his fear of losing someone again.

Overall, Pixar and Disney once again create magic in this family film, and Carl becomes a relatable hero, reminding us of our own grumpiness, coolness, and resilience.
