BREAKING NEWS: Anambra State to Establish Joint Security Base to Combat Insecurity

By Sunday Ani

The Anambra State Government has announced plans to establish a joint security base in the Omambala region of the state. The base, funded solely by Chief John Metchie, the Prime Minister of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) and President General of Umueri community, aims to address the rising insecurity in four local government areas.

This joint security base, which will involve the Army, Police, Civil Defence, and other security agencies, will be located at the border between Anambra-East and West. Its completion will enable the security agencies to respond rapidly to banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities in the area.

Senator Emma Anosike expressed his support for the project, describing it as a timely response to insecurity in the region. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and highlighted the significance of establishing a joint unit for the Nigerian Army and other agencies to ensure a secure atmosphere not only in Umueri community but also in the entire Omambala region.

Chief Metchie, who is also the Commander General of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service in charge of Technical Service, emphasized the need for unity among the security agencies in order to combat criminal activities effectively. He stated that the project is a response to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s call for collective efforts in addressing security challenges and advancing the development of Anambra State.

The Umueri President-General disclosed that a security post was already recommended to be located at the border between Anambra-East and West based on the police, army, DSS, and local government chairman’s recommendations. He urged wealthy individuals and communities to emulate Umueri’s initiative, stating that citizens should assist the government in addressing the needs and challenges in their respective domains.

Chief Emma Edochie, a prominent citizen of the Umueri community, praised Chief Metchie’s dedication to the project. He highlighted how a security base in the Umueri community would enhance security and reduce crime rates in the area.

The foundation laying stone ceremony was attended by military officials and officers of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, among others. The government of Anambra State, led by Governor Soludo, commended the efforts of Chief Metchie in combating insecurity and initiated the homeland security for Ndi-Anambra upon assuming office.

This joint security base signifies a significant step by the Anambra State Government in prioritizing the safety of its citizens and tackling criminal activities.
