Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has taken measures to enhance the security situation in the state by distributing over 50 patrol vehicles and 300 motorcycles. The beneficiaries of these vehicles include the Nigerian Military, the ‘Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)’, and hunters involved in securing communities across the state.

The distribution ceremony was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Government House in Maiduguri, with the aim of strengthening surveillance for preventive and responsive operations against insurgents and other criminal activities. Major General Gold Chibuisi, the theatre commander of Operation Hadin Kai, who oversees military operations in the northeast, received the vehicles on behalf of the military.

During the symbolic presentation, Governor Zulum disclosed the breakdown of the distribution. The military received 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles and 175 motorcycles, while the CJTF and hunters were given 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles and 75 motorcycles. Additionally, the Agro Rangers Squad of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, who are responsible for securing farming activities, received ten motorcycles.

Governor Zulum emphasized that this distribution is just the first phase of his plan to provide vehicles to security agencies during his second term. He assured that the Nigerian Police and other security outfits would also receive similar support in subsequent batches.

The provision of these vehicles and motorcycles is a significant step towards improving security in Borno State. It will boost the capabilities of security forces and local volunteers in their fight against insurgency and criminal activities. With enhanced surveillance and mobility, they will be better equipped to protect communities and maintain peace in the state.
